Many people really try to get on better diets and eat healthier. But what if they can't afford it? It is said that healthier food prices in supermarkets are increasing more and more throughout the years. Large families or even a small family may not be able to buy such expensive food. I mean think about all the expenses that families have to deal with.. these expenses may be the reason they just go to fast food places. The fast food places may simply be cheaper and have easier access.
If Americans want to help try to lower the obesity rates in America then all these healthier food choices should be easier to access and affortable. Salesmen need to try to consider families and other business issues within today's society.
Dear Junco,
ReplyDeleteIt is cheaper for companies to make fake food. This fake food is not at all good for our bodies. Why can't they just go back to the healthier natural stuff? We are becoming a more obese nation because those who cannot afford the healthy food have to resort to cheaper food option. What a bummer! Thanks for blogging!

Jordan,
ReplyDeleteIt really is ridiculous how expensive healthy food is. And we have to pay more for food that has so many more things added to it than we need. People really can't afford to have healthier food. Our government really should do something about it. I agree that fast food places are much cheaper and more convenient. It really is sad. Thanks for posting!

Dear Jordan,
ReplyDeleteYou're right! Healthy food is extremely ridiculous these days. I always see those commercials that are like "25 dollars a month plus the cost of food." Well, they're pretty much just giving them 25 dollars! I think it's partially our fault though that we buy into these scams for healthy food. It's very easy to make your own healthy snacks and meals. For example, a simple salad with the right dressing, and a turkey on wheat sandwich is healthy and affordable. But either way, eating healthy's overrated. Fast food's just so much better! You only live once right? Thanks for the enlightening post!

Dear Jordan,
ReplyDeleteYou're so right. Since I have not been living at my parent's house I have realized that the most affordable foods are the fatty, horrible, generic crap.
I completely agree that as a nation we complain about the obesity rate, but we only make unhealthy food available. Most people in American are not upper class or even upper middle class, so why does it make sense to only make unhealthy food affordable. Then complain about obesity rates.
It really stood out for me when you said that salesman need to start considering families and over business issues besides the bottom line. The companies that make Little Debbies, Hostess, etc. make them so poorly and so affordable so that everyone can buy them, but why do you want everyone to buy a product that will eventually kill them. That is bad business to me.
Thank you so much for writing this :)
Sincerely, Emily

junco,
ReplyDeletei've never thought about this before, but i agree!
One thing I thought about was that we have a lot of people who, just in the US, are homeless and go without food every night. These people have two choices: each extremely unhealthy food, or don't eat. What kind of message does that send? They're basically either going to be homeless or overweight.
Our country could do a little better job at not wasting money on useless things like fast food commercials, and a little bit more on helping these people, and lowering the cost of healthy foods.
good post, thanks for writing!
